Sula Wine Festival - Amazing Marketing Product

And this year after last minute decision finally decided to go for Sula Fest which is a verrry big event for every mumbaite after Goa new year party.

Generally happening 1st weekend of February Sula Vineyard owners decide to throw open the gates and throw a huge party for 1 full day under burning sun and then later almost chilled night.

When I entered the gates showing the passes, saw hot chics, some wannabe, chics in salwar and I go wow this is going to be good.then the sun hits me which would have being good 35 degrees around 1 pm, I go searching for the wine bar which was at 2 places in the open air. There was everything which Sula Vineyard produce, when I ask for one they put out a plastic glass and pour the wine in it. I mean some of the wine creators must have turned in their graves looking at people enjoying wine in plastic glasses but I became part of the crowd and I was here to drink wine, also what I conclude here is that Sula does touch is year end sales figure during the festival. The wine was served at Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 per half a plastic glass.

There was food which were good Pav Bhaji, Kheema Pav, Burgers, Pastas (which were on fire for most of the day), Chinese, Indian, Shwarma and Amore Gelatos all priced from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 which again I think it is OK.

They had grape stomping which they charged Rs. 450 per person and you had to stand under the sun and just stomp the grapes, I mean what fun! duh!

Finally some good soul decided we sit in an enclosed area where we can sit and talk and not be afraid to get burned by the sun. And then we are at the wine tasting lounge which serves you wine and dishes which compliment it. We had Sula Brut a sparling wine and Rose Blush Zinfandal (i hope i spelled it right) where plastic glass was provided.

They had a chocolate and wine tasting for Rs. 75 where one gets 2 glasses (small quantity) of wine with Cadbury Bournville which was melting away. Yes the experience was good but it did not achieve anything what Sula/Cadbury wanted the customer to say as the person behind the counter did not know the significance of drinking wine with chocolate. Ohh here we also found that people have just come to drink and do not know how to pronounce wine Chenin Blanc was pronounced as Sanin....Sanin what the fuck is Sanin.

Ohh yes, there were flea market where people bought hats, wigs, shirts, etc etc

Then, Pentagram gave it super energy performance and Midival Punditz gave super performance, by 10:30 pm people started to leave to avoid traffic and we did avoid traffic.

It was an good experience but I found it to be a bit too much where they are not promoting the wine here.

Martins Corner - South Goa

This new year was my first visit to Goa and after celebrating New Years on beach and sleeping early (read: passing out) next day luckily there was no hangover. And the only person who has being to Goa told us that we should go to Martins Corner as it has the best food in Goa (we could not argue on that because we have not eaten at any place in Goa)

So after driving down the small lanes towards our first New Years Lunch we reach Martins Corner which already seemed packed but luckily for 3 of us we got a table as soon as we entered. Well, later we came to know that the person who has suggested about the place does not like Goan Food o_O

We sat down and proceeded with ordering drinks first and for me I go for things which I have not tasted are ordered first. I ordered Coco Loco which is mix of Coconut Milk, Cream, Fenny and Rum. It was strong but was not that chilled.

Then we started off with Papad Prawns and it was something like Spring Rolls but way much better. The papad was fried with prawns in it.

Later which caught our eye was Shark Curry and Ox Tongue Roasted and we ended up ordering Ox Tongue Roasted which was very savory and was cooked properly. It was in the main menu section but one can order it as a starter.

Always suggested do not order anything other than the Goan Food here as for other cuisine you shall get it anywhere. Then for main course we went for Pork Vindaloo with Pav and Garlic Naan (yes the person who does not like goan food ordered that)

And to top it off we finished the whole course with a Chocolate cake with vanilla cream which was super awesome.

This is the place where you should never be in hurry, well who is in hurry when they are in Goa and try to reach before 3 PM for lunch as they close the doors and do not let anyone enter.

The Coast - Cool Place for Good Food

I am a sucker for unlimited food for a fix cost and friends had decided to meet there...I was only tempted to meet them just for the food and the buffet (selfish me).

For the first time I went the cost of the buffet was Rs. 299 + taxes and then it increased to Rs. 499 + taxes.

The Coast true to its name is well created place which has sand from the beaches and shacks placed and an open area. So you truly feel that you are on a beach and having food..i mean good food.
Note: They have stopped the buffet service :(
So what did the buffet have, well 4 varieties of veggies and 4 varieties of non veg food in main course and 1 starter each. I had gone there twice and was not at all disappointed with the non veg section. They do stock up well and people with different taste enjoyed the food coz they had 2 chicken dish, 1 mutton dish and 1 fish dish (or at times prawns/tisrya[shell fish]) . To top it off they used to serve unlimited Beer *yes yes you read it right UNLIMITED BEER* and unlimited Hookah which really complimented the konkani styled food.

The only problem was service which at time lacked quality and forgot that we wanted something.
Now I have to try the A'la Carte in Coast.

New Martins

This is one place to go if you are really low on money but want some good non-veg food.

Location: Opposite Strand Cinema, Colaba
Timing: 12 pm to 3 pm
7 pm to 11 pm (note most of the items get over by that time)
Sunday Closed

This is a very small joint which would seat almost 20 people maximum and most of the time it is full. The place is not big on decor, just simple layout with menu card hanging on the wall (old school blackboard) which keeps on getting updated as and when items get over.
This is an authentic goan food place (as said by my Goan friend) where you get beef steaks, vindaloo and goan sausages and prices are not more than Rs. 75 each.

So if you have 1 pork vindaloo, 1 chicken vindaloo, 10 pao and 2 caramel custard bill would be around Rs. 160 which is not bad considering what you would pay for a good meal at other places.

Go hungry!!! and enjoy some delicious goan cuisine
